Melanie Smith

Melanie has been selling horses for over 15 years. She has sold thousands of horses all over the world. Her fierce desire to match incredible horses with buyers led to a remarkable success in the horse industry. Melanie is known for her honesty, integrity and quality stock in the world of Western performance horses.

Growing up in Wichita Falls, Texas, Melanie was an avid horse-lover with parents who were not horse people. After they continuously refused to buy her a pony as a child, she began volunteering at Whispers of Hope Horse Farm, a local therapeutic riding center, where she learned the basics of her favorite thing in the world: a horse. At 16, she began working as a loper for Crumpler Brothers Cutting Horses for Don and Craig Crumpler. There, her love for cow horses blossomed.

Melanie enrolled in nursing school at Midwestern State University after graduating high school in fall 2011, buying and selling horses to fund her education. Melanie graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2015 and worked as an emergency room registered nurse in a fast-paced trauma center at United Regional Hospital for a year and a half. All though she loved her job as a nurse, she quit to pursue the horse business full-time.

She founded Solo Select Horses in November 2018, formally starting her business with the goal of connecting great horses with eager buyers. Two years later, she saw a need for an online sales platform that would modernize the horse-buying process, launching The Select Online Sale in November of 2020. This quickly grew to be the Leader in Online Sale Platforms and the second-largest grossing Western performance horse sale company in North America.

Solo Select eventually became a full-service facility: offering mare care, stallions, sale fitting and more. The company now spans over 300 acres in Grayson & Cooke counties with multiple facilities.
