From Maria's Perspective
Maria Guiterrez was always just a little girl with big horse dreams. She didn’t have horses of her own growing up, but her love for the animal drove her to study animal science at Sam Houston State University, minoring in equine science. Interested in reproduction and nutrition, after graduation she interned at the Center Ranch, and then continued working there for six years.
With Solo Select for one year now, Maria cares for the ranch’s broodmares and recip mares. She manages the mares’ cycles with the Veterinarian, and she closely monitors and plans their nutrition.
“I think the care we give all the horses is what makes Solo Select—it defines us,” Maria said. “Everyone at Solo Select works well together. Everyone has their specialty, and we all know who to call if we need help with anything. When you see a mare with a baby by her side, well, I don’t think anyone would be able to understand what it feels like, just to know that you were a part of the whole process.”
