Top 5 Average $128K in Select Online's Thanksgiving Mixed Sale

The Select Online's Thanksgiving Mixed Sale featured a top-five seller average of $128,100 and a top 10 average of $95,450, with buyers equally as enthusiastic about stallions, mares, prospects, embryos and broodmares in its largest sale of the year.

Boons Reflection, a 2018 homozygous red roan stallion by Once In A Blu Boon out of Cats Reflection by High Brow Cat, topped the sale at $170,000. The horse earned $72,000 in NCHA competition and is still primed to continue his show career.


"Boons Reflection is a great stallion with a sky's-the-limit future," Solo Select's Melanie Smith said. "We had extreme interest in him coming into the sale, and I wasn't surprised at all with how well he did."

Aint Karma A Hitch, a 3-year-old mare by Metallic Rebel out of Shine Smartly by Shining Spark and shown by Clinton Anderson, sold for $160,000, indicating great demand for standout performance marepower.


"Kathryn Bosco is a first-time performance horse owner, and she'll be bringing this mare back to me to have her shown and campaigned," Anderson said of the horse. "When it came down to it, there were four people who were dedicated to this mare's success and really wanted her. They obviously know quality and knew what they'd be getting with this great mare."

Plain Catty, the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion by Bet Hesa Cat out of Miss Plain Plain by Just Plain Colonel and shown by Jake Gorrel, sold to Valerie and Paul Gober for $132,500, the icing on the cake to their standout mare program that includes Select Genes' SS Blacks Lil Kitty, ARC Playgunia and Metallic Mandy.


"Plain Catty will just enhance our program for our mares," Gober said. "He's 14.3 and stout, and he's got good bone. It will translate to his offspring. We're just tickled to death to have him."

The standout Playgun daughter Play Corn sold to Solo Select customer Bob Tonkin, and she will join Select Genes for the 2024 breeding season.


"We're going to breed her to The Darkk Side, Pride And Joyy and more great studs in our program," Smith said. "Aspirations will be $15,000, keeping her price reasonable - because we believe everyone should have access to world-class genetics, and this mare is exactly that."


Play Corn, out of Bobcorn, a daughter of Bob Acre Doc, earned over $173,000 in here show career, with $229,513 in progeny earning so far.


High-Selling Embryo: Woody Be Tuff x Apache R Hali x Apache Blue Boy

For the first time, The Select Online's two highest-selling embryos were rope horses by Solo Select stallions. The embryo by Woody Be Tuff out of World Champion Junior Nogueira's mare Apache R Hali sold for $46,000, while the 2024 embryo out of Select Gene's Specialeditionkitty by The Darkk Side, owned by The Darkk Side Syndicate, went for $40,000.


"The rope horse side of the business is alive and well," Solo Select CEO Ty Smith said. "For the first time, I manage almost as many rope horse prospects and performers as I do cow horses and cutting horses. With the opportunities for owners to enjoy their horses under the best hands in the business at the futurities all year, and then for the same owners to take these horses and compete for millions of dollars themselves at the jackpots like the World Series of Team Roping Finale or sell them for others to do the same, there's a ton of enthusiasm in the market for rope horses."


Additionally, the embryo by Once In A Blu Boon out of million dollar producer Kittens - brought $41,000 for consignor William Morris.


The next Select Online Sale is Christmas Eve 2023, offering a mix of performers, stallions, broodmares, prospects and embryos.
