The Thanksgiving Select Online Sale will offer a standout selection of program-building stallions, including the 2017 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion Plain Catty, a bay roan stallion primed to make his mark on the Western performance industry.
Plain Catty joins Automatic Cat, Boons Reflection and Caliente Firewater as this sale's stallion offerings—all horses with loaded black-type pedigrees and resumes that will elevate the status of any program they enter.
2014 bay roan stallion, Bet Hesa Cat x Miss Plain Plain by Just Plain Colonel
"When Plain Catty gets into the right hands of a program that wants to promote him and all of his talents, there's no limit to how far this stud can go as a producer," Solo Select Founder Melanie Smith said.
"He is so easy," said Jake Gorrel, who showed Plain Catty to the highest fence score at the 2017 Snaffle Bit. "From the beginning, the easy you were on him, the more he wanted to please. He tried so hard. He's easy to be around at home, and he's good minded."
Plain Catty was no one-hit wonder: he made every finals at every show in which he competed, winning nearly $200,000 in his career. He won the 2019 NRCHA National Hackamore Open Championship and is a NRCHA Supreme Reined Cow Horse.
"Plain Catty really has the opportunity to be a standout rope horse producer, too," Gorrel said. "When I was getting him ready for the World's Greatest, I was turning steers on him but had to quit so that I didn't mess him up for the steer stopping. He's got the bone, and he can get down he fence, and it's all easy for him."
Lot 103 | Boons Reflection
2018 red roan stallion, Once In A Blu Boon x Cats Reflections by High Brow Cat
Homozygous roan, by the iconic Once In A Blu Boon with over $70,000 in performance earnings? There's absolutely nothing on the market like Boons Reflection.
Guaranteed to produce roan offspring, Boons Reflection has the bone and structure to be a legacy stallion in the cutting, cow or rope horse industries (or all three).
"We rarely get the chance to offer a homozygous roan to the public," Smith said. "There's not anything like him on the market. He has $72,000 in NCHA earnings, and he can keep showing while standing commercially, too. He's been successfully shown in the non-pro, meaning he's going to be a lot of fun for an owner who wants to be involved in his breeding and show career.
2013 blue roan stallion, Smooth As A Cat x Autumn Boon by Dual Pep
Automatic Cat is by $35 million sire Smooth As A Cat and out of the $2 million producer Autumn Boon, making him a half sibling to Im Countin Checks, Once In A Blu Boon and more. A true blue roan, Automatic Cat has only bred a handful of mares the last few years at no fault of his own, so he—like Plain Catty—is poised to leverage the forces of supply and demand for his next program.
"He's so easy," Smith said. "He's easy to ride—which we've done plenty with him all though he's never shown—he's easy to handle and extremely easy to collect. He's bred mares with fresh, cooled or frozen semen, and he's ready to breed mares in 2024 for his new owners."
Automatic Cat sells with his 10,000-plus Facebook followers and logo to make for easy marketing right off the bat, as well as the support, confidence and backing of Solo Select.
2015 palomino stallion, Fire Water Flit SI 86 x When I See You Smile SI 106 by Corona Caliente SI 101
Caliente Firewater has stood at Highpoint Performance Horses for the last two years. A son of $3.5 million sire Firewater Flit crossed on a dam with a 106 speed index, Caliente Firewater is a phenomenal addition to any breeding program. Easy to handle and easy on the eyes, Caliente Firewater will add old-school, gritty run into your mares.
"Curtis and Debbie Graves, who have owned Caliente Firewater since 2016, are finally retiring," said Melanie. "We purchased their recipient operation and facility earlier this year. They are committed to downsizing, which is the only reason this horse is being offered. He has been promoted well by Highpoint, and there are a great number of foals coming up over the next few years. This horse is already set up to be a producer for anyones program."
