Stevie Rey Von x DT Sugar Chex Whiz Embryo Sells Christmas Eve in Select Online Sale

Dixon Flowers Quarter Horses is offering an embryo by Stevie Rey Von out of roping’s leading dam DT Sugar Chex Whiz this Christmas Eve exclusively in The Select Online Sale.

AQHA/PRCA Heel Horse of the Year DT Sugar Chex Whiz (“Sugar”) has already produced some $250,452, including $98,248 on her Hickory Holly Time daughter DT Hickory Blu Steel, $75,495 on the 4-year-old stallion The Darkk Side by Once In A Blu Boon and $62,016 on The Notorious BIG. DT Sugar Chex Whiz has produced 100% money earners in show-aged foals.

“You can tell a 'Sugar' baby—they’re never a problem,” NFR Heeler Billie Jack Saebens, who campaigned the mare in ProRodeo, said. “Whatever it is, they’re different about it. They just want to be good. Sugar was that way. There’s a lot of good horses out there. There are borderline great horses. But what makes them great? Even if you mess up, you still win on them.”

The 2010 mare by Shiners Lena Chex has herself won at least $500,000 in ProRodeo and Open roping competition with Saebens, and before that, she earned 513.5 total AQHA performance points in the heading, heeling, tie-down roping, ranch riding and performance halter under J.D. Yates. DT Sugar Chex Whiz was the Reserve AQHA Superhorse and she won AQHA’s Junior World Championship in the tie-down roping in 2015. Saebens and DT Sugar Chex Whiz also won the Ariat World Series of Team Roping's Gold Buckle Beer Open in 2019.

“Her greatest quality and all of her colts greatest quality is that she’s got the best mind,” Saebens said. “She had to be ready to walk a mile through the fair at Puyallup and get their with fireworks and everything. You could put a child on her over the Fourth of July down Main Street and she wouldn’t care at all. A rodeo horse has to have the athletic ability and the try, and she’s got it all.”

Stevie Rey Von, by Metallic Cat out of Miss Ella Rey by Dual Rey, earned $421,000 in his performance career. His offspring have won $4,792,853 in 2023 alone and over $7 million overall. His winningest rope horse colt is Pride And Joyy, owned by Solo Select and The Relentless Remuda, with over $130,000 in earnings at only 4 years old.

"Stevie Rey Von offspring have rightfully proven exceptionally marketable, because his talent and what he passes on speaks for itself," Solo Select CEO Ty Smith said. "You can't lose with this cross."

Kings Snazzy Sugar, dam to DT Sugar Chex Whiz, is by NFR barrel stallion Fols Classy Snazzy, who was piloted at the 2000 Finals by World Champion Marlene McRae.

"This embryo is exactly what we mean when we say royally bred," Solo Select's Melanie Smith said. "Every horse on its pedigree is exceptional, with a black type of its own. Whether it's a colt or a filly, it will be the embryo that either takes an already great program to the next level or builds a program from the ground up. Dixon Flowers has proven what they you can do with a great mare and great management. And stallions out of DT Sugar Chex Whiz are the next frontier of the rope horse business."

DT Sugar Chex Whiz is still stound, carrying Saebens to the short round of the Pendleton Roundup in 2023, and she's still actively promoted alongside her colts. This involvement in each level of the rope horse industry will maximize the value of this embryo.

The Select Online's Christmas Eve Sale starts Dec. 24, 2023, at 8 a.m. CST and closes at 5 p.m. CST the same day only at bid.theselectonline.com.
