Metallic Cattack will move to Solo Select Horses for the 2024 breeding season, while The Darkk Side will begin his public breeding career there as well, marking the first time the Solo Select will stand stallions.
Metallic Cattack—the double-registered 2015 red roan son of Metallic Cat out of Quiolena by CD Olena—is an APHA World Champion in the junior tie-down roping with over $30,000 in earnings. Metallic Cattack had seven offspring in Solo Select's October Yearling Sale, averaging $26,571 per colt with the highest selling for $40,000. "TicTac" is a Ruby Buckle, Royal Crown and Riata Buckle stallion that's been at The Ranch Equine in Whitesboro, Texas.
The Darkk Side, owned by The Darkk Side Syndicate and shown by Trevor Brazile and Miles Baker, is by Once In A Blu Boon and out of DT Sugar Chex Whiz, and has earned $55,364 to date, with a double qualification to this years AQHA World Show in the Open Heading and Heeling.
"Jaf (James 'Jaf' Frahm) helped me jump head-first in the breeding business with Hired Gun back in 2017," Solo Select founder Melanie Smith said. "He has held my hand through the process of standing and promoting these stallions for the last five years. I could not have lucked in to finding a better place or person to help me get started. Jaf and Dr. Lee Uselton have done an outstanding job of standing our stallions over the years, and there is no way to express my gratitude for all they have done. Jaf has embraced my crazy ideas and ran with them over the years. Theres not a better human being in the horse industry, and we are thankful he helped us with his immense knowledge and experience in the stallion business."
Solo Select intends to stand Metallic Cattack and The Darkk Side, with Woody Be Tuff staying at the Lazy E. The team at Solo Select is geared up to bring their industry-best customer service and breeding management to mare owners in this new capacity.
"We break down the breeding process to make it easy for customers to understand and navigate," said Cody Ann Green, who manages the breeding office at Solo Select. "A lot of our clients want help understanding the contracts and the step-by-step of getting a mare in foal, and we bring a personal touch to that"
TicTac's breeding fee will be $2,500 in 2024, with a $2,000 early-booking fee by January 1. Repeat breeders who have a paid 2023 breeding can book again for $1,750 through January 1. Contracts will be available on his website within the week.
Solo Select currently has over 300 names on the waiting list for The Darkk Side breedings, and the group expects to have 15 to offer to the public. The Darkk Side Syndicate expects to announce his 2024 fee soon.
For Green, this marks just the beginning of her busy season.
"I have people calling me every day asking for contracts wanting to get their names on our books for the season," she said. "I'm excited that we are ready to begin releasing them to all of the mare owners who are so anxious to be a part of this program. It is important to value our customers who continue to book year after year. TicTac brings the chrome, the athleticism and the mind that everyone wants in their programs, and our repeat customers recognize that and just want more TicTac babies on the ground. And we're so grateful and dedicated to making their investments worthwhile."
